Youth from the ACLU of Northern California Present:
Know Your Rights!
Can your principal ban your Gay-Straight Alliance club from meeting in a classroom? Do you have the right to wear a shirt promoting marriage equality to school? Find out your legal rights by watching this workshop, led by youth from the American Civil Liberties Union! Still have questions? Ask away on the Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/233608786659828/
Find more resources below, such as how to get in touch with your local ACLU chapter or sample letters you could write to your school administrators.
Check out the ACLU "Library" for LGBT Students! Here you can find facts about your rights on campus, and letters you can print out to give to school administrators when standing up for your rights! http://www.aclu.org/lgbt-rights_hiv-aids/library
Some states have even more specific laws that protect free speech and expression rights at school than we covered today, and go further to protect LGBT students against harassment. Every state has at least one ACLU Office and if you have questions or need help, we're here for you! Here is how you find your local ACLU office: http://www.aclu.org/affiliates
